Hello, Guys. This is our last week of orientations. I was supposed to go this Monday, but something came up. Is there anyway I could change days with someone else. If someone is going to Thursday's orientation, maybe you can come to Monday's and I could take ur place on Thursday. Let me and again sorry.

OK, great job everyone! A bumpy ride during orientations but we managed to achieve our primary purpose, to get people to know about us! We had an incredible list of people interested in one way or another, a bunch of emails, and a lot of attention. Hopefully we can use this to make a better Innova, and as pressure to make an even better job, thanks everyone!

Are we going to be accepting new members soon? Some people seem almost eager about a videogame and animation organization at UTEP!

Yeah, the summoning will start right after we finish the game, that would be around the second week after classes start. People will have to sign up for interviews, and more than likely we will use an entire Saturday for that. We are re organizing a lot of things too, so maybe new "positions" are going to be created, so we don't mess things up by getting too many people interviewed/accepted. As for people, I think we have something around 80 -100, maybe a little less, I haven't seen the full list, though I already sent 35 emails. (Out of which 11 couldn't be delivered, mostly because illegible handwriting).

I would like to propose some kind of retreat where we show what we can do, not a retreat, more like a reunion or something similar. Also, stricter rules when people sleaze around or something and some kind of tutors. I think that is what hooked me up in the first place, we went and Laura gave us little assignments and whatnot. Then you all got excited about the game, and ditched that completely. Also, when someone has a question don't just say "Look it up" or "I used to do it, so can you". If anyone has a question, then people or us should just tell them or give them hints or links or something. Why not get that problem out of the way and maybe they can advance faster. Of course, draw a limit, too (Like Gloria, who knew nothing even though she took notes). That kind of ticked me off, too, cause "newbies" have to have a safety net sometimes and not just get expect them to do it themselves, since there are lots who might have the potential but no one give him a little push but not completely throw them overboard. Just my thoughts.

I agree with darkadan. Maybe like the next meeting aftter we re-introduce ourselves the new people that are interested we could hold a seminar thing...not necessarily to get all to be at equal level, but to provide a nice footing to which to start on. I'd be willing to assist (though I am confused at times with torque )

I agree too Adan! Yeah, I think we should lead them more along the way, at least in the beginning. If we know we can help, then lets do it. Very often we will bump into something no one knows, thats when I think we should have them look it up, as a favor to the organization itself, and to give them a more active role within it. But yeah, we can help.

Yes we will. As soon as Liz sends me the list with all the emails typed, I'll send them an email and we will begin interviewing.

Good, I had not been to an interview before, and some people seemed very eager (almost creepy) about joining, and some did not even last the damn demo version (they even seemed offended!)

As usual. I'm interested about the creepy/eager persons. A lot of them make a mental image that we are more than what we say/show/seem. Then a lot of them get disappointed because of their first works (because your first project is always crappy) and leave. Hopefully with our new way of organizing newcomers we wont have the downfall we had last year.

Maybe we should show some of our earlier work so they don't get their hopes up and leave because they think their models are crappy

Yeah, if anyone has that, I would really appreciate it. Unfortunately all my earlier work died with a 1Tb external HD

Got the emails. Students will be invited to the SIGGRAPH talk, they can ask for more information there. They will be able to go next Saturday to check us out, but after that (if they can't, they can schedule for another Saturday, but they'll have to tell us which Saturday they are going) they will have ot be interviewed if they want to do something other than stare at us. Then each lead will take the responsibility of certain people. In case some leads get overloaded, people might be asked to join another lead temporarily, while the lead they wanted to work with gets things organized and can handle another person (or someone from his lead leaves or does not respond). How many people make a lead to be overloaded? Only you guys know how many people you can/want to handle. Emails about all this will be sent to the students with a CC on all of you by this night.

I guess it depends on the people, if I can guess, I would say that animation modelers will peaceful and friendly but lazy and uninterested so it's gonna be quite difficult to determine how we gonna do this. PS. I wanted to learn more on animation, can I be a follower of the Animation Lead as well? (Not sure if I will be able, what with the classes and wahtnot) PPS, Should we do a Twitter INNOVA PAGE??

Difficulties are our specialty lately! Yeah, leads can, and actually should follow other leads as well in their areas of expertise. That's the way we could learn, without a single person teching you everything, or without having to listen to a bunch of stuff you are not interested. We should definitely have a Twitter, and probably a Facebook and Myspace too, I don't care in how many pages we appear, I just want to get the word out! If someone is interested in handling any of those pages, or has accounts in Twitter/Facebook/Myspace, make sure to join, and tell me if you can/want to do a page there.
