if you just opened this forum, then that means that on some corner of your mind you thought, "oh! scriptwriting! like the movies?! Im'ma go check it out!

"
well first of all, no scriptwriting for a video game is not the same a writing the script for a movie, well... only a little bit... kinda... ... ok, it DOES have somewhat to do writing a movie script.
What a Game Scriptwriter does is basically that, writing the entire story/plot for a video game; whether it is according to the ideas of the original game creator (whoever it was that had the idea...), or creating an entire new original one on your own born from your own creativity.
The tools a good scriptwriter needs to have are very few and simple: persistence

, patience

, and creativity

(and good writing skills can help a LOT too)
When you write the storyline of whats going to be a great game (take in mind, "The Legend of Zelda" for example...) first of all take in mind your biggest responsability... you're not just gonna write... if this game is gonna be great... YOU are the one in charge of making it great... for its up to the scriptwriter to create all the details and parts of the plot: the main and secondary characters, who are the protagonists, who are the antagonists, the time/era where the game is going to take place(middle earth, futuristic space colony, modern world, etc), the location itself (a city, the ocean, a psychedelic underworld, etc). Once you have these aspects all cycling and brainstorming inside your head, THEN the writing begins, (cause if you dont write it, great ideas can vanish in your memory

) this is where you let your wild creativity run loose, (especially if you have a huge supressed creativity since childhood like yours truly

) and the funs begins.
HOWEVER, if YOU are NOT the one creating the games plot from scratch, then you just have to build up on the story creator's ideas, characters, etc,. On such occassions a scriptwriters job can get easier or complicated, depending on the communication you hold with the story creator, for the more communication there is between both, the more the scriptwriter understands the way the story creator thinks, and uses his creativity to build up on the story to complete it and turning it into a great storyline.
Thats so you get an idea of what a scriptwriter does, if you really think about it, it is not a really boring job at all... especially if you enjoy writing and are creative; AND you still get big bucks if you end up working as one LOL.
So if you enjoy writing, and are interested in helping me building the base blocks to make great games for Innova in the coming semesters, join me in the scriptwriting team and let your creativity fly like a Freebird
