Hi
I would like to start a Suggestion Box thing...
Please write an idea for a fund raising event, or any ideas on fund raising that you think would assist INNOVA with our goals to rule all
Thanks!!!

We seriously need ideas here people. The money is for us in the end, coming up with fundraisers shouldn't be that hard.
I think it all falls under either:
- Sell something.
- Contest with prizes and subscription fee.
- Doing a service.
- Asking someone for money.
So, like what?

Well we can sell goodies or something on certain holidays. For example on Halloween we can sell candy bags. Or have a car wash. Maybe charge people to teach them how to use a certain software. A gaming tournament in which we charge a fee to join and winner gets a game or a snicker bar.

I would really like it to be related to what we do. Teaching software that we use would be nice, but the problem is, we don't have enough computers with the software running correctly, nor enough people with the knowledge to do it. Still, thats the idea I like best.
However, we still have the problem in which we need to do it for free for other organizations (they usually don't have any money either, or are not willing to pay), using that as a "preview", then offering more advanced topics.

hmmm
cant we do something like get free games from best buy or somewhere around?
maybe we could do something like when Oscar invited us to play Gears of War and eat pizza. If there was a way we could get games for free, and before the release date, maybe we could organize a gaming meeting, we would charge to let them play. maybe not have pizza the first time. we would get money just to let them play and at the end of the day have a raffle and the game would be the prize.
what do you say?

@Omar
Like offering workshops, working for someone, doing volunteer work like the one we did for the job expo last time, etc.
@Laura
It is almost impossible to get games ahead of time. The activity sounds good but how do we get money from it. Besides, I don't think Best Buy would give us something other than a gift card.

Well, at least they are giving ideas. And I hope everyone keeps throwing ideas until we get something that works!

How about we like place an ad in the newspaper asking people to donate us their old video games so we can resale it at school at a low price in order to make money for our organization. Then we turn around and sell it to the students. I am sure that there might be some students interested in obtaining a "vintage" game. We can sell them for like $2-$3. Maybe there will be students who like collecting older video games. Or We can get some recycling bags from http://www.recyclefirst.com/, then post flyers around the school asking people to donate their used ink cartridges, non working cell phones, non working games, and any other electronics. Then we trade it in for cash, according to that website. http://www.recyclefirst.com/ I think the recycling option is a good way to go.

I like the recycling idea, its a good service to the community, and we can earn some cash. The question is, how do we go about it. As for selling used games, I don't think its a good idea, as game developers HATE when they resell their games and with good reason, besides, there are some permissions involved in doing that, but I do like the recycling idea. Any input on that?

Well over the weekend I will try and do some more research from the website above. It pretty much tells you how to get started and supposedly everything is free of charge. We can call them to pick up our junk, and we can ask for supplies from them (like recycle bags). I will look into it this weekend(maybe friday nite) to get a better understanding of this.

Sure, why not? Probably they can even help us. Either way we need to declare it as an organization activity, and we also need to collect, and we also need mr. vp to give us an update on this...

Yes! The cell phone thing can work Many people have done it at UTEP and I've even had professors even ask for help collecting cell phones for their kids' sport. Once we hear from Fernie we can post flyers around the cs building, utep...notify friends and family....emails

Shipping address for what? To send it to them? Or to get something from them?

seeing how anuar and I are good at guitar hero we should do a tournament with entry fee, and then if anuar or me win the tournament we give the money to innova. xD (note: I won the last tournament at utep so it shouldnt be that hard )

And if not... but yeah, as long as someone else organizes it, I'm willing to ask for permission to do it. However, I don't know about how we will be seen if a member of our own organization won the tournament. Give me a plan by next Saturday including what/when/where/how/how much/ etc and we shall discuss it.
